Convert Text to Cursive Handwriting

How to turn typed text into flowing cursive — choosing a script font, adding natural variation and printing pages that look joined up by hand.

A handwritten note in flowing cursive script

Cursive gives a page an elegant, personal feel — perfect for invitations, letters, journal pages and handwriting practice sheets. Writing it neatly by hand takes years of practice. Handtext turns typed text into cursive pages in a few clicks.

Pick a cursive font

Different scripts suit different jobs:

  • Dancing Script — lively and easy to read; a good everyday cursive.
  • Sacramento and Kristi — thin, elegant strokes for invitations and cards.
  • Homemade Apple and Cedarville Cursive — loose, personal handwriting that looks like a real letter.
  • Licorice and Oooh Baby — decorative styles for headings and short notes.

Size and spacing matter more in cursive

Joined letters get hard to read when they are small. Raise the font size a little compared with print fonts, and increase the line height so tall loops and descenders do not collide with the line below.

Add natural variation

Perfectly identical letters give away a font. Move the Handwriting realism slider towards “Realistic” or “Lifelike” to vary each letter’s size, slant, height and ink strength, the way a real pen does.

Tip: Cursive practice sheets: use Lined paper with a large font size, print the page, and trace over it by hand.
